Follow the yellow brick road

Last week before we left for Dallas, we had severe storms. Living in Oklahoma all my life, it's expected that there will be at least a few severe storms in the spring, which may or may not include tornadoes. There was a lot of hype last Thursday about the storms that were due to arrive that evening. We didn't think much about it because it was just another storm.

As the storms approached, my fears were initially for Brianne and baby Rylee because the severe weather was headed for them. Luckily, it missed them, but then it was heading straight for us. For the first time, I had to get the hallway ready for us to take cover. It was a little scary, but it all happened so quickly that there was not much time to be scared. I think instinct and adrenaline took over. I removed the pictures from the wall, moved the shelving unit, and then grabbed all the bed pillows and the diaper bag. As we watched the storm move closer and closer, I think we were both getting a little nervous. Luckily, the storm turned right before out house and missed us. It was a little scary for a while, but in the end it was okay.

Unfortunately, the same line of storms that almost put us in danger, hit south eastern Oklahoma pretty hard. We went through the town of Tushka on our way to Dallas on Friday morning. An F3 tornado hit that town of 300. It was so sad. I did not have the opportunity to take any pictures, but here are some that I pulled off the internet:

Surveying the damage first hand made me so thankful that we were safe during the storm. Our prayers go to the people of Tushka while they pick up the pieces and try to rebuild their lives!
