This story begins on Monday when Colt and I ventured out and spent the day because we knew we would be trapped inside starting Tuesday. Well, as predicted the Snowpocolypse hit on Tuesday. Serious snow fall, and by serious, I mean we set a record.
This is Chase during the snowstorm using a broom to get the 2 foot drift off our hot tub to keep the cover from caving in!!
Can we say cabin fever? Finally, today, Chase went to work and Colt and I worked around the house.
Now, all this would be great, except for the fact that Monday night, I noticed Colt was a little warm. After taking his temperature, he had a low grade fever. He had been having a runny nose and cough since last week, but I assumed it was allergies or the fact that he is getting another tooth. Tuesday, his temp was a little higher and he was really whiny and the runny nose and cough continued. Wednesday, it was even worse and his temp was holding steady at 1o1.5. Tylenol did nothing to break his temp. There is nothing worse than being a mother of a sick baby that can't tell you what's wrong. It's even worse if you feel trapped in your house. So, Wednesday afternoon, we ventured out to take little man to the doctor.
Let me interrupt here by saying that our pediatrician, Dr. Raley, is AMAZING! He opened the office yesterday without an office staff or nurses, just to see sick kids! I'm telling you, we LOVE him!! Anyway, back to the story...
The roads weren't too awful, once we got out of the neighborhood. People are down right silly in their driving. Our town had gotten anywhere from 12 to 17 inches of snow. Obviously, anyone can do the math and know that if you have a small car that only sits 10 to 12 inches above the ground, it's not going to make it in 12 to 17 inches of snow, so get off the road!!! We saw a lot of cars in the ditch and just stopped on the sides of the road. It was crazy because the cars had yellow banners tied onto them saying that they had been checked and were empty, because the city was so worried about people being stranded in their car. I have never seen that before.
We got to Dr. Raley's office and got to see him. He listened to Colt's lungs first and said they sounded great. I was relieved with that, because I was worried about pneumonia. Next, he looked in his ears. He promptly said that my baby boy had "nasty" infections in both ears. We went on to do a flu test (which came back negative). Then, wrote us a script for Amoxicillin told us to give him Motrin, and sent us on our way.
We were able to go to Walmart and get his prescription filled and after one dose of Motrin and antibiotics, I had a completely different baby! So, today we got some stuff done around the house and just played, something he hasn't felt like doing in a couple days! It's been a great day.
I'm not sure how many more days of being stuck inside I can handle, especially since the temperatures are not predicted to get much above freezing in the near future, and they are calling for another snow storm next week! At least my baby is feeling better! :)
I'm ready to not have either of those 4-letter S words used again in this house for a really long time!!!
